Was out doing some birding today and had a good day with 24 different species and some fantastic shots. The highlight of the day happened when I came upon a Broad-winged Hawk that was perched in a tree at the side of the road about 8 feet in the air. Usually when you pull the truck up to a bird it takes wing and so much for a photo but this guy let me sit about 30 feet away on the opposite side of the road for 15 minutes till he jumped down and grabbed a snake for lunch then flew off. I got some fabulous shots and a couple minutes of video.

I often confuse them with the red shouldered until I edit the image...great shots...what was it eating? That's usually the only reason that a critter won't move when you approach. I'm the same way...git your own damn sandwich.

This hawk sat looking around for almost 15 minutes while I sat in the truck then it flew down and grabbed a good size snake, at that point I got out to grab a couple quick photos of it with the snake........I never have them sit still like this one did.
