Canon 6D Question

I have a Canon 6D and all of a sudden, when I take a pic, it is a small one in the upper, left of the screen.
It also has a grid, RGB and brightness scale, Av, AWB, etc. All I want is to get back to having the pic over the entire screen. I have gone through the manual, a book I bought for this camera, and can't find the answer anywhere! I figured you pros on "The Hog" would be able to help me. Thanks in advance. Don

Try pressing "Info" when viewing the photo.

Sounds like you are on one of the screens which are accessed after a shot by using the info button. repeatedly pushing the info button should cycle you back to full image preview. I believe there is a total of 4 screens which rotate with each push of the info button. I have a new 6D and am not aware of a menu selection which would make your camera default to this screen... try the info button and if no luck check the menus for selecting and choosing default screens. Hope this helps. Bob

There is probably a " restore setting to default " in the menu somewhere.

Try the different info button modes. These are all menu settings...

This is correct.

Not sure if the 6D is exactly the same as the other models of Canon that I use, but most models are very similar. There might be several ways to change the image playback view, but the quickest is probably just to press the Info button. It toggles through three different views: 1. A small image on a black background with the histogram and shot data (scroll to view more of the data)... 2. A "full screen" view of the image with the basic shot data overlaid on it.... 3. A full screen view of the image only, with no data overlaid.

Simply pressing the Info button toggles through those three different playback views.

I'm pretty sure you also can use the "magnifying glass" (if the camera has it, earlier Canon I used didn't)... which will give you a similar effect with a slightly magnified view of the central portion of the image. You can adjust the amount of magnification and scroll through images on the memory card.

Another suggestion related to playback... If you haven't already set it, on one of the menu pages or possibly a Custom Function lets you choose whether the image playback is rotated or not. You can choose between: 1. No rotation at all... 2. Auto rotate the image both in the camera and on your computer... 3. Or auto rotate the image only on your computer. I use this third setting. The reason is because I definitely want images shown in the correct orientation on my computer screen (and don't want to have to go in and rotate them manually). But it's different in the camera. If a vertical shot is rotated and played back on the the camera's small LCD screen, the image is necessarily very small. Plus it's no big deal to simply rotate the whole camera if I need to more closely view the image correctly oriented. So I choose to not have in-camera playback rotated. But definitely want the images correctly oriented on my computer.

In-camera playback has somewhat limited use, anyway... It's so small it can only tell you limited info about focus accuracy, etc. The camera's LCD screen also is not calibrated and is strongly influenced by ambient light conditions. I leave it off by default (which saves a lot of battery power) and only occasionally recall an image to check exposure (histogram), general composition, timing of the shot, maybe magnify the image a lot to check focus as best I can, etc. I don't delete a lot of images based on the playback, unless it's an accidental shot of my toes or grossly bad shot for some other reason. I usually wait to delete images later in my computer, where I can inspect them a lot more closely.

Thanks for letting us know. Many ask a question and we never hear from them again.

amfoto1 - Going to try your suggestion on using image playback on computer only. Never gave it much thought prior to your post. Thank you for your post.
