I hope I can find and post the photo I want to share. I took it while we were living in Dresden in 2015-16. It shows the cathedral and castle. They were not destroyed in the fire bombing in February, 1945 although they were damaged. I took the shot without much thought using my Olympus E620 DSLR. Looking at the photo now I really like it. It makes me homesick.
Had the pleasure to visit Dresden several years with our German relatives. What a great city. Did you ever tour the VW plant in Dresden?

No. I wasn't aware that the plant was there. We weren't tourists although we did visit historical sites in our free time. My wife is native German and it was good for her to live once more in her native land. When I was growing up I never realized that my life would become so tied up with Germany and the German people.
Great image of Dresden. We stayed in a hotel about 2 blocks from that image.
I've read Kurt Vonnegut's book about Dresden, I'll bet he didn't get homesick...

In 1945 it was not a place that would make one homesick. After the bombing there were 25,000 bodies that the authorities stacked up in the market places and burned with flame throwers to dispose of them. Today the city has been restored and even the Frauenkirche has been rebuilt. It is a beautiful city. There was only one good result from the firebombing......It killed all the rats.
The city never should have been bombed that late in the war. There was nothing there worth bombing and the city was packed with refugees fleeing the advancing Russians. Arthur Harris' reputation was blackened by that raid for the rest of his life.
Interesting, thank you for the response Bigmike.
