If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"

Maybe this........................

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

I understand both statements, but the first one was more fitting to the time it was made, loyalty to the crown, not sure what his point was. Maybe I am just having a little brain fart.

No I can see your point. But if I look at it from a Biblical perspective. There is a whole different meaning

My issue is that I don't despise wealth, I do despise ill begotten wealth but I don't have an issue with wealth itself, the Adam's statement addresses those in positions of power and wealth that was given to them by the crown and only through the continued support of the crown can they maintain their elevated position in society, they see the revolutionaries as a threat to that power and wealth. Not sure that we are in the same situation today and I don't know if the OP is complaining about wealth and income distribution in today's society, or if he is complaining about allegiance to the establishment pols in DC.

This is how I understand it.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, -- Worship money over freedom --
the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, -- prefer to be a s***e then a free person --
go from us in peace. -- be on your own and don't look to us for help --
We ask not your counsels or arms. -- we will not ask anything of you --
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. -- show respect for your master --
May your chains sit lightly upon you, -- may your chains not be a burden --
and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!" -- you are not considered one of us --

I see it as acquiring wealth by succumbing to the rule of the crown; subsurviance

My cousin traced our family tree back to Sam and John Adams who's predecessors came over on the Mayflower.

I'm still a nobody, but with history.
