My father-in law went to see his physician once and had to wait 45 minutes in that little room before he showed up. When he took my F-I-Ls blood pressure, he commented that it was a little high, my father-in law's response: "Well, if you didn't make me wait so long to see you, it would have been fine!"

[quote=jerryc41]Height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse. That was it. I waited half an hour in the waiting room and another half an hour in the "little room." Then I went out in the hall to see if they had forgotten about me. That had happened once to my wife. "Oh, sorry for the delay." I went back into the little room, waited a bit more, and then left.

I can walk and talk and type, so I guess I'm okay. Even better, I didn't get furious while the clock ticket away. I stayed calm, left the office, and drove home. This is why I don't like late appointments - after 10:00 AM.[/q

If the Govt takes full control of our health care, plan on waiting a lot longer (if you get in).

Au contraire. If you don't sign up when you turn 65, then you are penalized $10 a month for each year that you do not take Medicare. So, I did not sign up for 11 years, until I was 76, and my monthly Medicare is $286 a month. Gives one something to think about.

I am with Jerry on this one. I also would not pay the bill for this office visit and would notify my insurance not to pay it either.

The same thing happened to me, back when a Doctor Office Visit was only $35.00, and actually got a letter of apology from the Dr. He was called out of town, and the staff all left early without notifying patients.

Doctor? What doctor? I waited over an hour, but he never made an appearance. I have to accept part of the blame for this situation. I agreed to a "late" appointment. If the doctor spends an extra ten minutes with each patient, by the time noon rolls around, he's way behind schedule.

Jerry in reality no matter the time of the appointment someone on the staff should know where you are and have some idea of when the doctor should see you in realistic terms. I don't mind waiting so long as they do not forget me and can at least occasionally be aware of my presence by saying, Sorry for the wait. We had an emergency or something came up, SOMETHING to let me know I have not been forgotten. Doctors are busy but so are their patients.

The top of my computer says this is in the NON photography-General Chit Chat section. Anything can be discussed in this section.

. . . One of the biggest mistakes we made nationally was to allow the Blues to become for profit. They seem to be much more interested in paying their executives bg salaries then treating their policyholders. My opinion.

Really? Height, weight, blood pressure and pulse? That's it? So the doctor didn't look at blood work and tell you things that could improve like bad cholesterol, PSA, how much weight you should lose or how you need to change your diet? If they didn't spend at least 20 minutes with you to talk about stuff like this, then you got ripped off and I would change doctors NOW! I have been going to the VA healthcare doctors since 2010 and every annual appointment they spent at least 1/2 hour with me in the little office talking to me about things. One time the doctor didn't like how my heart sounded so he sent me upstairs to get an EKG. By the time I got up there, they were waiting for me, took the EKG, put the results in an envelope, and I hand carried it back to the doctor whom was waiting for me to come back. He didn't even take another patient while I was gone. Thank God the EKG was fine. My point is, the VA has a pretty bad name for serving vets, but it sounds to me like your healthcare is crap. I am very happy with VA healthcare and I probably won't ever pay for medicare. Why should I give them $126 a month for shitty healthcare like yours.
Really? Height, weight, blood pressure and pulse?... (show quote)

It is nice to hear about your VA care. I live in an area where there is a lot of competition which results in very good service and little waiting. What I don't like is that the Dr spends more time looking at his computer than me.

The 'olde ways' are dying with everyone now employed by large hospital groups that aim to capture extra pay for having certain information captured into the 'electronic death record' in which no one can find important information because it is hidden behind mounds of check lists and yes/no questions. This is one of the reasons I retired. I had no way of placing a meaningful paragraph/sentence into the medical record let along find anything of importance.

I once waited a total of FOUR HOURS!!!!! And without even a hint of an apology. That was the first AND LAST time I saw that son of a bitch. Most doctors are all about the cash. In the last 10 years I've become an expert on that subject.

I'm a Navy vet/retiree. I was given an appointment (be there at 8AM) at the Wilkesbarre VA (an hour drive from my home). Sat in the waiting room for an hour or two and had to go to the rest room. Returned to the waiting room and at 4 in the afternoon the staff at the desk left. Evidently, they called me during the short rest room break and assumed I was no longer there. I will never go back to that VA again. I currently use the one in Manhattan and could not be more pleased with their courtesy and expediency.

A relative who is a doctor told me that they purposely have patients sit in the "little room" for a while so that things like blood pressure, pulse, etc. have a chance to stabilize before measurements are taken.

When the nurse leads the patient into the room, she does the vital checks immediately. Then we wait for the doctor. Next time, I'll bring a folding cot and a sleeping bag.

My insurance gives me one free check-up a year. I wonder of my in-and-out visit will count as a check-up.

Another thing I don't like is the six-month "follow-up" visit. "Come back in six months. We'll chat a bit, and I'll bill your insurance $500."

I got spoiled. My doctor in Canada never kept us waiting, If one of the kids got sick in the winter, I had them dressed before I even called because they would tell me to be there in 5 minutes. In 12 years the longest wait was less than a minute. On the other hand, if you were late for an appointment you would have to reschedule and receive a little lecture as well. Now, I wait 15 minutes, then I go home.

As a health care practitioner I have had pts come in with one problem, then voiced several others, I would address each and deal with it, many times running into other pts times. So late for next. If one did not address the voiced problem you would be liable for litigation and worse. So it is pts fault if he complains of multiple issues. My take on things. Practice for over 40 yrs, never had malpractice claim.

They should give us a blonde to play with while we wait, right Jerry?
