Spring on Mushrush Rd 2019

Spring has arrived but in our neck of the woods but we wait until the last full moon at Memorial Day to feel safe. The rhododendron photo is the first elepidote rhododendron to bloom every year for me. Rhododendrons are mostly divided into three groups. The Lepidoes the elepidotes and the tropical which are rarely seen out side of greenhouses. The leoidotes are smaller leaved and somewhat resemble azaleas and for the most part bloom earlier. The elepidotes are the ones everyone thinks about when they think of rhododendrons and we wait in anticipation every year for the blooming season to come. Therefore the first bloomer every year is somewhat special even if not my favorite plant. There is something special at being first and it is cold hardy which is a big thing for western PA. The second picture is a yellow magnolia which we (the originator and my self did not know if it would live in our area). Other than being subject to late frosts it has done well and this year is exceptional. So what this all says it looks like the rhododendrons and magnolias and me are going to make it through another spring.
