I enjoyed your well-taken shots. My husband and I took a self-guided tour of the covered bridges in Ashtabula County,northeast Ohio.

Good shots, I don't think we have any covered bridges in the UK. Do you know how covered bridges originated, I'd be interested in knowing the reason for covering

The story I've been told was that the "cover" or roof was there to protect the wooden structural elements from the weather.

Thanks Dave, makes sense, I wasn't thinking -- wooden bridges do need protecting, ours are mainly stone built over here so they don't need covers
