Rare bird for me.

My house is in Penn Twp Butler, PA. In Penn Twp there must reside thousands of woodpeckers. At least twelve of them do not live in my woods. On Easter Sunday my wife asked me to identify a bird.Looking out the window I saw a red headed woodpecker. Now these birds are listed a native here but I have not seen on for over thirty years. He? stayed around all day and was back Monday morning and then left. Hopefully it will nor be so long again.

They are very common in eastern Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana in western Tennessee.
I some times see as many as ten at a time in these states.

Do you have good pictures of them ?? - here in Florida, I have seen 3 in the last 8 years .....and have NO decent picture of one .

One of my favorite birds...nice shot of the Red-headed Woodpecker BTW...suet is how I lured them into my yard in North Carolina!

There is one of these woodys pecking on an old dogwood in my backyard here in Gastonia NC for a year now. I enjoy watching it as it hammers up and down that bark. Nice catch.
