Would you call this acceptable as a framing?
For me it has great impact! The white sets off the negative space wonderfully. The thin outer black line doesn't overwhelm.

Thanks for posting this. I am new to Lightroom(2 months) and also full PS (2 months) after using Elements 1 1/2 years. Still feel a beginner. I've been hoping to find an easy way to put a double border around some of my shots for mostly Facebook as it seems to make them stand out. A simple thin white border with a thicker black border without textures is what I like at the moment.I have learned how to do it using the Canvas Size shortcut Ctrl-Alt- C in PS. I'm doing 98% of my PP in LR and have not been needing to go to PS much except for making frames. Is there something like this that can be saved and done in Lightroom, as I searched and have not found anything yet. I'm, using LR and PS CC Classic. Thanks for any help.

Dave, I didn't try the 'action' linked-software in this discussion, but it likely doesn't work within LR. In LR you define "external editors" and pass an edited copy of the image (or the original, or copy of the original) to that editor. Without merging the LR edits with the image creating a new image file, there would be no way for the digital mat software to apply the mat to the edited image version. See if you can find a way to define this software as a 'stand alone' external editor from LR. Or, just plan to use within PS as an external editor from LR.

Paul, I did try the "action" link to see if I could get it to work. I did, and would need to practice more if I use it more, but it does somewhat the same as I did with the Canvas Size method, with many more options and possibilities. I'm trying to avoid moving a rather large tif file into lightroom, because if I do this much it will soon amount to a lot of MB's. Or I could just delete it after exporting the file as a jpg. First one I did I saved as jpg from Ps, but it then was not in LR. So I saved tif back to LR and exported jpg and ended up with a large extra tif file. Thought if there was a way to put these borders on the photo in lightroom it would save a couple steps and have everything in my catalog. I have bookmarked many of your posts and have gone back and reviewed them many, many times. If you know a way to export a jpg from Photoshop and have it automatically be in my Lightroom catalog, it would be appreciated. I really appreciate the body of work you have posted for all to use. Thanks!

You can pass a PSD to PS rather than a TIFF. Also, given that adding a mat should be the final step, you could export the image to a JPEG and then use PS to add a mat to the JPG. You might even define your own custom definition for launching PS that passes a JPEG rather than PS or TIFF. That is, don't manipulate the PS definition of an external editor to LR, instead use the lower portion of the definition window and create a new external editor definition that also points to PS, called maybe "Matting in PS".

Paul, Using your suggestions, I have a solution for me until I come across something easier. Since I save to catalog every jpg I export (for now) , after exporting I can just open the saved jpg in Develop Mode, then edit in PS the jpg , add the border, and save. If I want to have a jpg with and without border, I could use save as and add border to the name. This will keep me from having the large tiff or other file saved. Now I have to learn how to save and automate the setting for making a border so maybe I can do it in one step in PS. Thanks for the suggestions. Dave
