It seems like a large pile of cash for a "stupid" piece of glass. However, I defer to the KIS principle. Namely, keep it simple. Most of all, since these will probably be a once in a lifetime vacation, splurge on the investment. A good rule of thumb is to alternate some photographs with and without a polarizing filter. I don't like leaving photographs to happenstance. I like have some control to some degree. Have a great vacation. Don't forget to post your photographs.

I have this filter and the color is fantastic. I have shot pictures with it and without and I can see no color shift. I think its the best out there.

"It seems like a large pile of cash for a "stupid" piece of glass". Really?

One must consider that once a filter is attached to the lens it becomes part of the optical system. Putting a cheap, I've seen them priced as low as $15 at Staples, defeats the purpose of using high-end lenses. Probably a fact you overlooked.

I am laying out the itinerary for a trip through Hoover Dam, Death Valley and north central California in early May. I think that a CPL would greatly benefit my pictures. I have some inexpensive filters that seem to not add much benefit to the photo quality. Therefore I am looking at B+W filters as I see them highly recommended here on UHH.
Adorama has them on sale right now at a very attractive price. Specifically this filter: https://www.adorama.com/bw72xsphkcpn.html

Thank You for your input,

Point well taken. I used filters back in the days of film. I got some good results but not phenomenal. I rarely use a filters now. You are on point when you claim that a quality filter will produce quality results. Now, I should throw away the bad filters I have and buy better quality filters. I do have a great star filter which I keep in my bag for some excellent results such as wedding and candle lit photos. Please accept my apology for something I had written earlier.
