We have people who compose the occasional haiku and post it here. This is recognition of those skills.
Haiku is poetry, usually written in three lines I believe.

To be specific. ......three lines composed of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables. It does not have to rhyme. I get on haiku kicks sometimes too.

This is one I wrote in memory of the passing of a dear friend's mom:
a speck in cosmos
a brightness, a flicker, and
to ever travel

That cartoon would have been much better if the dialogue was in the form of a haiku.
I don't speak foreign
But I often speak haiku
Just to impress you.
Thanks... I did it up in a computer program that put the lines up one at a time, and flickered for a few seconds, and then the screen went blank.

The Japanese honor the late American Nick Virgilio who spent his life in Camden, NJ, as a haiku master. There are a few websites and a foundation dedicated to his name and memory. His work is exquisite. First introduced to him in a haiku anthology some 35 years ago, I recently (and finally) found and purchased a printed collection of his work. Any one interested in haiku would do well to become familiar with him.
