I have a Canon 70 to 200/2.8. There is a tiny bit of play in the zoom ring - like a bit of gear backlash. It doesn't appear to affect the photos - they are super sharp. It does make a bit of noise when you move the lens around. I found this post on the internet - so it sounds like it's not unique.
