As an aside, this is the only parasitic bird in Illinois. They are too lazy (or maybe clever) to raise their own young and put their egg in a host's nest and that bird unwittingly or not raises the chick.

They have just begun to show up here, maybe two weeks ago. You commented on them being lazy or maybe clever. Looking at it from a slightly different point of view, the surrogate parents need to get some education. Many times the egg is bigger than the surrogate's and the resulting chick is the same.
