Sitting charge

I did a search but could not find specifically what I need so sorry if it is a repeat question. I have been doing portraits for my friends and relatives for a couple of years learing from the experience plus here and other places. I am certainly not to a pro status yet but my work has really improvedl People are showing and telling other people and I am starting to get calls for sittings, both studio and outdoors. Almost always they want to pay something but I don't have a clue. Many of them don't want prints, just to post on the web. I would like to know what is fair for the sitting itself. Normally they last an hour or so unless we go to other locations. I will PP the keepers and give them a CD both in 300dpi and 72. If they want prints I can handle that cost, it is just the sitting I am asking about. Also do you charge more for small children, say infants to 3 years old? They do take longer. I am thinking 50-75, am I in the ballpark? Thank you so much for the ideas.

Part of your charge should recover transportation cost including travel time. One of the philosophies of setting rates is charging what the clients will pay. I'd establish a sitting rate that represents one hour of shooting time. You need to include recovering setup and take down time of any lights. I'd suggest a sitting fee of $75 which includes the first hour of shooting and $60 for each of the 2nd thru Nth hour. For partial hours over 1 hour, just charge a $1 a minute. Yes, I know that this is way less than a pro would charge but you aren't one and you are not taking any work from a pro.
