Need gear advice

Ok, I know this has been covered before yet I need some specific advice. Going to Tibet and Western China, Karakoram Highway to Pakistan. I usually carry my gear in an old beat up daypack. Want to change it up a bit and carry more of an over the shoulder bag to make my gear a little more accessible. Just bought a Tenba DNA 15 and love it. It holds tons of gear, but too large and too new to take. More interested in some really well used bag khaki or brownish, faded and frayed. Taking 5dmiii with 16-35, 24-105 and 70-300. Want to sling over shoulder, arm draped over it. Able to access camera quickly, change lenses easily. Any ideas on a bag that will fit this gear? Hard to 2nd guess really from B&H, Andromeda or Amazon for size. If I have to buy new so be it. Don't want to spend much (will not be my primary bag) and leaving in 3 weeks so not much time to really experiment with sizing. Better yet if any of you Hoggers got some beat up bag hanging out gathering dust in the closet that meets my needs and you want to finally get rid of it, let me know. Reasonable price plus shipping is what I can offer. I live in an area with very limited shopping options.

Thanks

Thanks, yet the Domke F2 seems huge. Advertised as up to 2 bodies and 6-12 lenses. Seems monstrous. I have big bags, looking for more compact. This is to be specific for 1 body with of the 3 lenses attached and 2 in the bag ready to go.

Look at the Tamrac Apache. It has the space you need for the lenses and you can have your body attached to one of them for quick shots. It’s a shoulder bag with a comfortable pad on the adjustable strap. The inside has Velcro separation pads so you can set it up anyway you want. Also has convenient zippered pockets for the little things.

If you have not already done so, you might consider contacting Filson, in Seattle. For awhile, they were purchasing old beat up Filson bags and resuscitating them to work as new, but look old and beat up.

More Thanks. The Tamrac Apache looks nice, yet reading advertising info to fit the lenses it becomes $130 and the dimensions are almost as large as the Tenba. Filson looks great, I'll have to give them a call tomorrow. They sorta look they are so high end they might be like Patagonia though. Meaning, you go to the Patagonia Factory Outlet store in Reno, Nevada and the real factory 2nd's and rejects are as expensive as most other name brand clothing is at best quality.

I am not objective to having no dividers, long lens lying horizontally and gear stacked. Very little to no padding and not going to carry anything other than an extra battery and lens cleaning stuff which can get thrown in a baggy in the bag. Ideally interior dimensions would be 11x13x5 (LxHxD) for stacking. That way it is not riding ultra long on the side while in crowds and 70x200 could stand ready if shooting. If lenses vertical need minimum interior of 13x10x5 and now its looking like huge. Anyone out there have the same dilemma and how did you solve it. Starting to think perhaps some funky bag from a thrift store yet have not seen one that fits my needs yet. Once again, thanks for your input.

Sounds fascinating, make sure you share some of the shots you get when you come back!

I'd suggest lightening your load a bit and leave one of those lenses behind. You then might consider a messenger style. Don't know if you're male or female but if you're female a purse style would work well.

EBay should have what you want.

Canvas shoulder bags -

Why not check the auction sites to see what used, well worn, frayed and faded bags are available there. If you buy new you’ll have to drag the bag around on the pavement a bit and run it through the wash several times to get that look. I’m not trying to be funny here - if I was traveling to territories unknown the last thing I’d want to have my gear in would be a spanking brand new camera bag. Go used and abused off eBay, shopgoodwill, etc.

Go to a store (not too far considering going to China) and take your equipment and find one that fits and is comfortable.

I may be old but I own em to use em. Don't go anywhere without them. Actually usually take more but on this trip I am cutting back a little bit because going to more primitive locations. NO ORGANIZED TOURS OR CRUISES for me. Adventure is the way to go. There are plenty of other ways to shave weight off of your traveling gear without leaving your dearest hobby tools behind. Back in my bicycle racing days we would always say "If ya wanna lighten up your bike for a ride, take a leak before heading out."

I like the sling style of bags for traveling. Take a look at the Lowepro Slingshot 202.
