I guess I have never seen the belly on the female before. It almost looks like she was taking a bath in mud. The male is beautiful.

Jan, it has as much to do with the light as the bird, although the males as more colorful.

Indeed, burst shooting is for the birds.
I even do it when using flash although I may only get 2 well lit frames. I shoot at the medium frame rate otherwise there are too many similar images to review.
Meticulous focusing and composition is not for Birds. Even when they are perched the heads bob around and they don't stay in one position very long.
When not using flash the camera is set to silent shooting mode which has a frame rate slight lower than the mechanical shutter. I think its less wear and tear on the camera and not subject to potential image robbing vibrations. Never experience "Rolling Shutter"
