I have seen a Pileated woodpecker in my neighborhood a couple of years ago flying to a tree in the next block. This year I saw one that I was able to get a couple of shots from about 50 feet and through the patio door window. Don't think I have ever seen one at a feeder before. Maybe they are having a tough time finding food. Either way this was just luck.
Good capture there. They are on the feeders here getting suet every day, especially when it is cold. They are very skittish, though. As the season goes along there will be more insects available for them.
