Just for fun...couldn't get up to the Cape today so I shot this from the beach near my home.
Very hazy at sea level, so I waited until about a minute into the launch to grab this image.
3000mm 1/1000sec f/7.1 iso 400 Center-weighted metering.

I used to watch the shuttle launches from my back yard which was 46 miles due west as the crow flies from the launch complex.
Launches are nice to watch.

Awesome, I love it. Wish I could have been there. Watched on line and even that got me going.
We’re you able to see the return of the two boosters?

Great! And I'm jealous! Always wanted to go see a launch!

Yes. But it was so hazy at sea level that the rocket bodies were almost invisible. Just the exhausts. So I didn't post that.
I had gotten some excellent images of them (up close) during last year's launch/return.

Impressive just the same. Catching a missile launch is no small feat. I have photographed Army Air Defense launches in the 60's and you rarely get 2nd chances at this. But the cameras we had then are nothing compared to the digital wonders of current uses....lucky us !

Nice photo but I'm wondering if it is SOOC or was it cropped?

On Merritt Island two days ago a guard said I could watch the launch from there if I got in by 1pm on Thurs.
Now that's close.
