I googled it and found quite a bit of stuff on removing the front lens element to create a "macro" lens. I have no experience with this lens since it will not fit my Nikons...sorry. Hope someone else jumps in!

Have you shot anything with it? I'm guessing since no one has had experience with this one that may be your best guide.

I don't have one. I see that Adorama has a used one for $50.00. Canon's website says this: 'this is the lightest compact zoom EF lens. An excellent value. The aspherical element makes it compact and helps obtain high-contrast images. At the 80mm focal length, a postcard can fill the viewfinder frame. Lead-free glass is used.' $25.00 is probably not a bad price, if you are going to use it.

I have the Canon 35 - 70mm that I don't use since I already that that range covered with a better lens.

Hi, Does it take decent shots? Is it clean and w/o dust, fungus etc., and does it do what you expect it to do? If it does it's a great buy and if you don't like it it's not a really good one. I think we too often get hung up on price and forget that we're buying tools. I have had expensive lens that I had to send back because they weren't sharp, and I've had inexpensive lens that did a great job. It's dependent on the one lens you've got. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

Pretty daughter, nice picture. Why are you asking us if you got a deal? $25.00 gave you a nice memory of your daughter, you got your $$$ back in spades.

It seems to be a decent lens for a decent price. It was intended for film cameras. It's claim to fame is the do-it-yourself macro modification, as was already mentioned.

As stated above it looks like it's designed for a film body. If you don't mind doing everything manually then it will be fine. Most people that own DSLR's buy lenses for their DSLR so that all of the auto focus, f-stp etc., can be controlled by the cameras functions knob/dials. I practically gave away all of my old Canon stuff in a garage sale last December. It's a good buy if you are happy with it. It's not a good buy if you put it in your bag and never use it again.

LOL It is af the af works fine and it seems faster than my 18-55 kit lens that came with my xti. this was on a canon slr with af so the lens works onany canon eos camera .all the funtions work on auto.

I agree with the above - - if you find the lens gives you good results and DOESN'T duplicate a range you already have in OTHER lenses {ie - you will use this one} - then it is a good value.
-
It DOES seem to have one problem though - - it seems to make people frown ?? Don't suppose you could try a different lens to see if it will capture a happy face ?? :-o :-P

It will be as good as you make it... That is an old EF lens and you may be able to have full function on your newer DSLR body. For $25 you did not make a mistake, you could probably turn around and sell it for a few dollars more. That lens was very popular back in the days of the Canon EOS Rebels and A2's. It is an inexpensive lens which is evident by its build quality. That does not mean that it is not capable of shooting some decent pics.. It will be as good as you make it... I recently picked up it's big brother, the 35-105 in a garage sale for $25 the lens actually performed much better than I expected it to...

Put it on your camera and use it, don't be overly critical, just enjoy it...

I like how it makes xti feel so light with it on, And feels like there is no lens on there. I'm going to play with and see what it can do. That pic was just in af portrait mode. Still learning to shoot in manual mode will need some work yet lol. but I love taking pics. Thanks for the reply!
