Affinity Photo will cost you $49 and will do the job just fine.

Yes. I've been using Affinity Photo for about a year. My copy of Photoshop CS6 is just gathering dust now. I also use Affinity Designer (Illustrator on steroids!) and am following with great interest Affinity Publisher, which I believe is going to leave Adobe's InDesign in the dust. I don't know how Serif can sell these amazing applications for a flat-out $49.

I use Affinity for my Nikon raw files. Extremely powerful - much more than I can deal with but not difficult to learn and there are many youtube tutorials. You can download a free trial version . I sometimes use the Nikon software for minor adjustments and am pleased with it - worth a try.

Does Affinity come with a downloaded disc for windows 10 or is it a subscription thingy like Photoshop?

No subscription. For $49 you own it. It's sold through Apple Store where it can be downloaded (I use Mac; Windows will be a bit different). Go to Affinity.com and learn how to get the Windows version.

Hi Chaps,

My Nikon P1000 camera supports RAW images.

I have the old, now 'free' version of Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Will that do the job, or do I need something better.

I haven't had a chance to experiment yet.

I've set my camera up to save both 'Fine & RAW' files.

Can anyone suggest the best inexpensive image software if PS CS2 is no good please.

Cheers

Paul :)

I recommend Affinity Photo. I've tried several programs and it's the easiest to learn that I found and is a very capable program. There is a one time fee of $50 (no update fees, yearly or otherwise) and there is a free two week trial available.

The cheapest solution is to download the free software from Nikon - View NX-i and Capture NX-D.

There are better solutions out there - On1, Capture One, Lightroom/Photoshop CC, DXO Photolab, etc.

But the bigger question is if you can run any new software on your computer, especially if it is the same vintage as CS2.

There are other cheap or free solutions, but I wouldn't recommend them. They can be more trouble that the savings are worth.

You can subscribe to Adobe Photoshop which gives you Adobe raw and Lighthouse for $9.99 per month. Currently taking classes on how to use Photoshop somewhat easy takes a lot of pain with if you're not in the class but doable. Considered to be the best on the market for 9.99 a month

I shoot the Canon d70 200 and try to use Nikon software and found it to be extremely confusing had to call Nikon several times and they didn't always have answers and felt that they agreed that it's not the best software going to stick with Photoshop and $9.99 a month includes all free updates

If you are technically inclined you could try Darktable. It is free and runs on Linux windows or Mac. There is a downloadable manual and some online video tutorials. I used Darktable for a while along with Nik, and NX D. Finally ended up with adobe subscription.
