What the heck is going on with PhotoShop CC

I subscribe to PhotoShop CC and pay my monthly fee. I can't say I'm happy about it but it does keep me up to date with the latest versions of PS and Lr. I can afford it. Today when I opened a file in PS it informed me that I do not have connection to the Internet and then refused to continue until I established connection to the Internet. I live on a mountain top out in the boonies. Often I do not have connection to the Internet. That's why I prefer to store all my images on hard-drives and make two independent backups to hard-drives in my own home.

I was able to fire up my iPhone and make a hot spot that let me get onto the Internet. Then PS relented and let me continue with my work. I resent that much intrusion!

There are plenty of post programs that you do not need to use the internet to make them work. Although many must have internet to get the program in the 1st place.

I think that's just a logical response, one that's to be expected!

You may not like it but that is what you should expect when you subscribed. I don't see any other way for the program to know if your subscription is up to date.

Maybe it wants to (has to) perform an update before it continues?

Boonies, no internet (or inconsistent)? I'd get a stand-alone editing system.

You don't really need fast or even consistent internet connection for PS CC. It only used the internet to verify that your subscription is up to date and it does it only once in a while.

When you signed up, you agreed to let Adobe access your computer at least once a month when you open their product.

Evidently, only when it can too.

That's what I thought. I have been subscribed for a couple of years. Just yesterday it informed me that a new copy of PS was available, then asked me for my e-mail address and Adobe password. I had to look my password up, but found it. So it had my password as of yesterday, but gave me more grief today because the Internet was down.

I've read you agree to annual contract. If you pay for the whole year at once, each year, it checks far less frequently than if you pay monthly.

Updates are optional and might best be managed with the Creative Cloud app.

Thank you. I did not know an annual contract was an option.

You could also add Lightroom CC CLASSIC to your programs. By syncing Lightroom CC with it, you can work independently of the internet.

If you watch, there will be occasional discounts at places like B&H for an annual one time payment.

The CC part of the subscription requires access. Lightroom Classic, part of the subscription, only checks monthly, as others have said. If you haven’t checked in within the last month Classic will still work, but it “greys out” the Development module until you’ve checked in.

You can work offline so long as your billing is up to date. I often do so.

I also have LR Classic CC but I was working outside of LR to resize some TIFF files that I was afraid I had lost. I then copied them into the external HD where LR Classic CC stores my images. I then imported them into LR.

It's all rather complex and confusing but it's all working now. The images are once more safely stored within my copy of LR.

BTW, I'm going to have these two images printed 16 inches wide. The hummingbirds will be returning soon and I will be using the images as backgrounds to make photos like the last one below.

It's been a few years since I have done this but I now have some ideas as to how I can extend my DOF just a bit and get better pictures than I have have in the past.

It's all working now.
