Recommendations for post processing software, Android tablet and Linux

Looking for recommendations for post processing software to use on an Android tablet.

Additionally, I am looking for the same to run on Linux.

Further complicating things, I take stills and also have drone video. My higher priority right now is the stills.

I know most everyone uses Windows or Mac systems, but there are some different people out there...

Thanks.

I use Darktable on Linux for editing raw files.

And there is one answer fo Linux. Sadly Adobe does not have a Linux version.

Here are some links that may help:

Linux people generally don't want to pay for software and Adobe certainly do not agree with that.

Good pointer. That one was not on my radar.

Beware Linux relies on printing using CUPS or a generic HP. A cloud based printer driver facilitator. (As far as I have experienced).

You will find a lot of graphic programs in your software repository. Not all Arch Linux programs are compatible with all flavours of Linux so search your computer first. (Add/remove software)

dont forget that with Linux you can try and delete at will....

have fun

Thanks everyone for your comments. Using CUPS is not really a problem but for printing anything of significance I will likely use someone else.

Slackware 14.2 is installed on a bunch of machines here, and Darktable has a build for that distribution. I am aware that I can use PS with WINE on linux, and have done that in the past. But I am ideally looking for open source solutions.

I have several 4k TVs which are connected to Slackware boxes, and while using a TV, as opposed to a monitor, is not ideal, it gives me lots of space, and in the case of 4k drone shots it allows me to view in the native resolution on the computer. For critical work, such as someone doing pro work, the TVs fall short on color stability, among other things. But they are cheap.

Finding something suitable for the Android tablet appears to be more of a challenge.

In addition to Darktable you can probably use RawTherapee and/or GIMP. If you can make Windows software run with WINE then congrats! The theory is that it can be done. I've never been able to make it fully functional.

I have tried all three and perhaps it's just me but I find them hard to use because their approach is different and their GUI is downright cryptic. Darktable and RawTherapee are very capable, though. I have no idea about GIMP - couldn't get far enough to make an evaluation.

Might I suggest, though, that if you want to run Windows software on a Linux computer you could try Oracle's free and open source VM:
I've had good results with this on a Mac, running Windows and various Linux distro's. If configured well, you can even run The "child" OS in an app window so that you can copy & paste bi-directionally, share resources such as internet and so on. Therefor I suspect it would work that way on Linux.

Our desktop runs Ubuntu Linux.
I use gimp.
{Linux is the native O/S for all open source software, such as gimp}

A lot off Android apps are meant for use on small phone screens. So true photo editing is not the main focus. There are more SFX apps to make "old time photos," "vignettes," etc.

I have a large screen Kindle Fire I got when I dumped my iPad2. Most of the apps Amazon offers work well on the larger screen, but some do not. Amazon's "store" even warns of this if you select one.

Tablets, other than Windows devices like the Surface series, are really more for consuming info. Other than writing apps, there are few true Android photo and audio editing apps that are convenient to use. If someone hasfound one, I'll be happy to try iit!

Organizing photos, deleting duds, etc. is another story.

PC-based Linux has more true editing programs, all meant for more serious on-screen work. GIMP is pretty good, especially to tweak levels.

Heh. When I got my first phone I did not cave and get a Nokia--I went elsewhere and had no issues at all with the other, "inferior" interface.

I use Windoze under Linux with VirtualBox for exactly this reason--the printing I manage through that while I do all my work in darktable under Linux. At work (where I do none of this, since I teach) I run Linux under Windoze with the same. This would allow anyone to use Linux apps in that environment.

Sorry--I realize this is off track now.

You can't beat GIMP for Linux...also for Windows and Mac......for software that competes handily with Adobe stuff, and it's absolutely free. Current version is 2.10.8.

I have used DigiKam with a lot of success. I also use GIMP and darktable at times but the learning curve on digikam is better although it is not as powerful. TomG7903
