And now there are four.

I can still remember that one of the photography gurus saying one should avoid 4/3rds because Olympus and Panasonic would eventually be gone. I found that to be interesting and not truly believable by the way the market seems to be going. Then recently Sigma said they were joining the 4/3rds market. Now Sharp has announced they are joining the the 4/3rds market. Does this now mean that we are to avoid all four manufacturers before they go under? Or is it possible that the 4/3rds market is actually here to stay? May even grow further?

What do the Sigma and Sharp 4/3rds cameras look like? Do you have a link?

Sharp is planning to make cameras again? First I have heard of it, especially since their first attempt was such a huge failure.
And Sigma??? I think you may be confusing that statement with Sigmas alliance with Leica and Panasonic to jointly introduce the L Mount FF mirrorless camera system.

Not yet. Sigma I think is looking at the video/still market of Panasonic. The article about Sharp mentioned using Olympus lenses.

Sigma is branching out. And it is more than just the FF market.
This is the Sharp announcement:
"Olympus Corporation and Panasonic Corporation jointly announced the Micro Four Thirds System standard in 2008 and have since been working together to promote the standard. We are pleased to announce that Sharp Corporation has recently declared their support for the Micro Four Thirds System standard and will be introducing products compliant with the standard."

Why do you think 4/3 is dead or dying
The system is ever growing and gaining in popularity

I wouldn't get too excited about it, as it is being touted as a video camera. Comparable to Black Magic's Pocket Cinema Camera, but with 8k video instead of 4k.
Both cameras use a MFT sensor.

I don't own a 4/3rds rig yet but I have seen some excellent studio-shot 4K videos made with them and I would never have known otherwise until the producer made it know.

He blew away any theory I ever had to the contrary having listened to the misinformed public like myself at the time. The sensor doesn't make the photographer just as the $$$ paid for an expensive device doesn't make the professional.

A skilled Technician can operate any rig the way he pleases with confidence and confidence is the bomb.

4K produces 8MP single frames. Not great but not that bad. 8K produces 33MP single frames. It could possibly change the way a lot of people take pictures.

Sharp had a non working prototype at 2019 CES in Jan.
People are hoping for an official announcement and working prototype at 2019 NAB.
From what i have seen of it, it will have a 5" swivel LCD screen and can use Olympus or Panasonic
MFT lenses.

Don't believe every stupid comment someone just throws out there. There is absolutely no merit in that statement, Panasonic will not be gone soon, but rather a major player in the photo industry!
