[quote=bluezzzzz]Found it. Sorry, but I've never seen it closer than this:

Eastern Kingbird. Very territorial and aggressive.

Good shots Katy, I like the whole set. We get Tropical, Cassin's, Western and Thick-billed Kingbirds down here and with the exception of Cassin's none of them are easy shots. You did really well to get these shots.

Wow, all of them! You are so lucky. Texas?

Marshall, that is amazing. I saw it in my birdbook, for Eastern Kingbirds. You learn something new every day.

Suddenly, these flycatchers are all over the place, going after bugs in the treetops. As a result, I never really get close to them. Never the less, they stay still long enough to be photographed, and they often return to the same perch after a short bug chase.

These are really good Katy! The double download on the first one is reference quality. They are cool birds.

Oh yes, a favorite spot for birding! I remember going to Portal during an eclipse, the SW Research Station, the Chiricahua's, Patagonia. I need to go back there again. Trogons! Great memories.

Downloads are a must to get the gleam in the eye. Fantastic shots. I'm looking forward to seeing the Eastern Kingbirds when they get here.

I've only visited in spring. I am guessing all those spring birds stay for the summer?
Once in the canyon near Portal we came across a bear. Luckily, it was more scared than we were!

If you really want to see the South east Arizona specialties, Trogons, exotic hummingbirds, Thick-billed Kingbird, etc. you need to visit from mid July through August. This is the Monsoon season and temperatures are typically mid 90s rather than mid 100s.

Physical infirmities limit my ability to guide you but anyone interested in birding down here during this time period, or any other, PM me and I'll see what I can do to help make your visit successful.
