Genius. I remember reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail as they were serialized in Rolling Stone. He was wild, crazy, and drug-addled, but brilliantly insightful.

Interesting piece. The mention of Hattersley brought back memories. I took a short class he taught many years ago. He was quite a character.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was our bible in my college geology department. Great book.

It's always the person, the artist, not the equipment who makes fine photos or any kind of art.

Both of those books are excellent and I have read them many times. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is almost unbelievable. Hunter was a treasure. Too bad what happened to him.

Any book that starts out,

“We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas.”

portends a wild ride to come... RIP Hunter...

Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail was required reading for a Political Science class I took at Davidson in 1976. I’ve read it every presidential election cycle since... It just gets more and more relevant!
