Peacock: The Art of Courtship

During our visit to the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in St. Augustine, FL, I managed to take some photos depicting its history. But the one that fascinated us most is a peacock's stunning display of plumage during courtship which is a sight to behold.

I divided this posting in 2 parts: 1) Opening Act - consists mainly of a few photos of the place, and 2) Main Event - A video of a peacock's colorful display during a courtship I titled, "Peacock: The Art of Courtship."

The Opening Act - photos of a watchtower and a demonstration of firing a canon. About the watchtower: It was used to spot potential danger early enough to muster an effective defense. About the canon demo firing: When Pedro Menendez de Aviles landed in St. Augustine on Sept. 8, 1565, he brought 20 artillery pieces with him to protect the fledgling settlement. Nothing can compare to the sound and feel of artillery - the roar and smell of powder transports one back to a time when a small band of Spanish soldier-farmers faced an uncertain future n a and that was naturally rich, but filled with hostile and potentially lethal threats. Dozens of beautiful peacocks and peahens roam the Fountain of Youth Park.

The Main Event - see a peacock's colorful display of his plumage to attract a potential female. It's in HD, about 3 minutes long. Below is the link:

I hope you like it. Enjoy and thanks for watching.

Hi Johanna,

Thanks for your kind word. We were at the right place and time. Too bad, the female was not impressed. As for the music, it was the first thing came to mind when I was working on the video. It's the shorter version of everyone's favorite, Ravel's "Bolero," featured in that sensual movie, "10," with Bo Derek and Dudley Moore. Probably, the funniest movie by the late Dudley. Thanks for watching.

Hi NMGal,

Glad you enjoyed them. What a performance by the, "Man in Blue." Too bad, the feeling wasn't mutual.

Thanks for watching.
