Nikkor 18-300 3.5-6.3 vr lens creep

I have the 28-300 FF and it also creeps, u just have to get used to it. What I DONT understand is, why not be able to lock it at a few other standard lengths like 50, 75, 100, 150, and 200 mm? This would be nice for focus stacking, panos, etc.
