What is a STANDARD LENS? If I go on line or camera store and want a "Standard Lens" what do you think they will show you. And if they showed you a lens do you think that the next place would show you the same lens ( in mm).

A standard lens is a 50 for FF and 35 for APS-C ... they are referred to as a standard or normal lens because of how closely the approximate standard human POV.

Yes, I believe that nearly all camera store employees would know what I was talking about.

Years ago, an SLR came with a 50mm lens, which would give a normal, real world view. For several different cameras, that was my go-to lens. I had a W/A and a tele, but that 50mm was my everyday shooter. Now, I use a 28-300mm lens on my D750. Do any of you rely on the standard-view lens for general photography - a 35mm or 50mm?

Fuji X100F

I love the focal length and size ...

If you know this camera, and are a pro you will want one. After a long days shoot, this is a go to freedom machine. The leaf shutter is so unique and silent, and with a 23mm lens, that works out to 35mm with a crop sensor.

The 6000 x 4000 image is crop-able and the low noise is outstanding. I use it as an indoor camera exclusively for events, and can add that it out-performs my Canon 5D Mk4's by a mile in low light.

as focal length leaves 50mm, distortion become more and more visiable, but except for very very wide angle lenses, it is not an easily seen [noticed] factor.. ery long lenses [football game] show close players and far away players at more or less same size also,,, Ed

In the spring, if I feel I haven't been taking enough pictures, and need something to get me working at it, I will often go for a hike with nothing more than my 35mm f1.8 on my C camera. I like to see how many different types of pictures I can get with just that one lens. I sometimes share these sequences on my Photo tours, just to broaden peoples thinking.

For many years I also used nothing but a 50mm. I now have numerous lenses, however three yrs. ago I purchased the 17-50 2.8 Tamron and I find myself using it for 90% of my photos. It is a extremely sharp lens covers most of the things I shoot.

So glad to hear that. I have one on order. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. It’s what we see “normally.”

Normally the things that I'm interested in are not really covered by a "normal" lens. I carry a 70-300mm or the 24-120mm that was bundled with my D810 when I got it. Both are sharp and serve me well for the things I happen on.

Personally I very seldom use my 70-300 for standard every day use. 70mm is not short and wide enough to be practical for me. Don’t like to change lenses in the field. If using it I like to have another camera available for 28-75 or wider.
