Welcome to the forum. Are you thinking of getting rid of your Nikon D750 and buy a Sony RX10 1V?
If so why?

Thanks, have followed this forum for some time now, first post. I am old and tired of lugging a camera bag full of glass (heavy glass!) Don’t think there is much in the way of resale for a D750, so I think I will just hold on to it – The D750 is an awesome camera and has served me well. The RX10 IV looks to be a good alternative, not a bad price.

Just a suggestion: I also have a D750, and find it to be a nice, lightweight companion when I go out shooting. Try just bringing it along with a 24 prime, a 50 prime, and maybe a vintage 135 2.8 AI lens for any telephoto needs. Sell all that "heavy glass", if that is what is keeping you from carrying the D750.

The Sony RX10 IV is an amazing camera. Don't listen to anyone who hasn't used it. Here is a review by someone who normally uses medium frame, full frame, and APS-C cameras: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ9olqPJjZw

Since you are new, I suggest you do a search on RX 10. There is a lot written and it is overwhelmingly positive. If you can't take good pictures AND shoot good video with an RX 10 of any model, it is not going to be the camera's fault.

Yes I completely understand all of that! Consider looking into M43 if your goal is to reduce mass.

Personally I find the M43 and full frame formats to be two useful formats, different enough that I use them for different purposes. I would be happy with M43 alone for digital, but since I still shoot film, having a FF digital body makes sense.

I understand the RX10 IV to be a fine camera. But it costs $1,598.00.

I would think that at $497.99 the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 might suffice, although it only zooms at 16X from 25 to 400mm (35mm equiv) vs the Sony 24 to 600mm (35mm equiv). For more zoom the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 at $997.99 zooms 20X from 24 to 480mm (35mm equiv).

Of course, I'm just going by price and published specs. Both brands use a 1" sensor, and have a similar form factor. However, the FZ-2500 is 2.13 lbs, the FZ-1000 is only 1.72 lb, and the RX10 IV is the heaviest at 2.41 lbs.

It's a great camera. I shoot D800/D810 but for a trip to Europe a few years ago I decided to go light. While it's not a D810 in image quality, it does an amazing job for it's 2.5 lbs. The optics are very good, the camera body is amazing, it does great video if you are into that, and I do have to say, the menus and documentation absolutely suck!

I looked at the other likely suspects like the Panasonice and Canon, and they paled by comparison. The Lumix had a great camera as well, but the lenses were mediocre at best. Also, the dynamic range as well as the usable ISO was superior in the Sony. There is little to dislike about it - the menus, the documentation and the price. The cost only hurts once, the menus and documentation become non-issues after a while. If you can justify $1600, it is well worth it.

You can see some images in a variety of shooting situations here - some of mine may be mixed in:

I bought an earlier RX10 and had to return it as I was over whelmed when I went into the menu.
It lost me completely.
Took good photos tho.
Bought a Canon G9X Mark 2

I have close friend that moved from the SLR to the RX10. Small compact and the ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm3 f.2.4-F4 ultra-zoom Lens is incredible. He misses a little on the wide side but still gets some great landscapes. At worst if he need wide he can shoot pano and post process. As I struggle with my MDIII and 100-400 q.4 extender and the what seems like 20 pounds, he has zoomed into the warbler. It almost looks like a toy but takes great photos. An expensive light weight bridge camera but worth it in my book.

Weight being an issue, I have bee very pleased with my RX100vi. I resisted liking the camera at first, but I now enjoy it.

I read your post and I was considering selling my RX10 IV only because I dont use it. I purchased it about 2 years ago from B&H Photo. Personal message me if interested.

be patient; it looks like, in this coming year, Nikon will be coming out with some compact cameras that will (cleverly ) use the new Z mount; I have expressed, on the forum, previously, the same sentiments you have expressed; was about to buy an RX10 IV ( only as a backup / second body camera, but to use where I may not wish to lug the big boys around ). although I am not that patient a person, I believe I will sit back and see what unfolds
