Every time I go to the supermarket, I see a new brand of beer on the shelf - generally with a funny name. Below is a list of some odd names I came across in a list of the best 100 micro brews. The beers supposedly get better as they reach the bottom of the list. These guys must spend a lot of time thinking up names and label designs.

Green Flash Palate Wrecker
NoDa Hop Drop n Rol
New Belgium Fat Tire
Surly Brewing Darkness
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
The Bruery Saison Rue
Foothills Brewing Sexual Chocolate
The Alchemist Focal Banger
Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA

Deschutes Black Butte Porter
Half Acre Daisy Cutter
Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA
Hair of the Dog Adam
AleSmith Horny Devil
Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout
Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower
On the Wings Of Armageddon
Haymarket Angry Birds Rye IPA
Schnickelfritz
Autumnal Fire Doppelbock
Fullsteam Carver
Hop Head Red
Blind Pig IPA
Anti-Hero IPA
Edmund Fitzgerald Porter
Jolly Pumpkin La Roja

Interesting list. A lot I have never seen before. Dog Fish Head 90min. IPA is a GREAT tasting beer. This is probably the Best time to be alive if you are a beer drinker. So many choices, and SO LITTLE TIME !!
Thanks for the list..

I wouldn't touch them. They are probably so over priced that only the rich can afford them. There is a micro brewery up in Park City here in Utah. I don't drink their beer but their restaurant is great.

I've had the Fat Tire, Dogfish and Lagunitas. All good beers/ales.
Often, the craft brewed beers have a limited distribution and can't
be found nationally. I go to a market just outside of DC in Maryland
that has a very large selection of craft brews as well as 16 beers on
tap. A great place to shop and sample.

Quite a list Jerry. I’ve had a few of these, and Foothills Hoppyum IPA is my go-to beer (drinking one as I write this), brewed in Winston Salem, NC. I haven’t seen their “sexual choclate” here in NC, but I’ll look. NC is becoming a real haven for craft beers - we have at least 25-30 just in my area. Good times!

your choice, of course, but they aren't much more expensive than other beers on draft (and PC has at least TEN breweries). I buy 12 packs at grocery stores for about $16-17

Jerry, either you have too much time on your hands or you've been sampling the entire list. If you take some day trips, hopefully with someone else driving, there are so many micro breweries upstate. Toni On NY does a day trip to quite a few.

I agree, you can get a six of most good beers for the price of a pint or two of Bud in a bar or restaurant, lets me try with some company, mini beer tastings, Bob.

I've had at least 10 of the brews on your list. Last night I drank a bottle of Hair of the Dog Adam and last week I drank a bottle of Horny Devil. I can't remember the last time I drank a bottle of what Stone Brewery calls 'fizzy yellow stuff'. If I can't get a good beer with my meal I usually order a root beer instead.

But coming up with unusual naming for the beers is nothing new. Many (over 20) years ago I worked with an Indian who grew up in the UK and he gave me a bottle of a British beer called Head Banger and the naming was quite appropriate. It was like getting hit in the head by a 2x4. Cheers!

Our local Kroger store will let you mix and match a six pack of different microbrews for $9.99. They carry some of those on the list and more, nice way to sample new brews.
