Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality

Canon UK Press Release

Canon Inc. today announces that the company’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLR and mirrorless cameras) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 16 consecutive years from 2003 to 2018.

Canon develops the key imaging system components featured in its EOS series of interchangeable-lens cameras – CMOS image sensors, image processors and interchangeable lenses – under the core concept of ‘Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality’. Incorporating a wide-ranging product lineup – from high-performance flagship models that are highly trusted by professionals to entry-level models that allow users to enjoy high image quality shooting with easy operation – Canon continues to support the diverse needs of customers.

In 2003, the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS 300D. This groundbreaking camera, which was competitively priced and featured a compact, lightweight design, captured the top share of the global market and set the stage for growth in the digital SLR market. Since that time, Canon has continued to launch a range of groundbreaking products, including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording.

In March 2018, Canon launched products such as the EOS M50 mirrorless camera and EOS 2000D DSLR, which allow entry-level users to effortlessly enjoy capturing professional-looking images. In striving to further expand its line-up, Canon has once again secured the leading share of the global market in 2018.

In September 2018, in pursuit of further expanding the boundaries of image capture and new possibilities in visual expression, Canon launched the EOS R mirrorless camera, equipped with a full-frame sensor, as part of the EOS R System, a new imaging system with lenses at its core. What’s more, in February 2019 Canon launched the EOS RP – a small, light and practical full-frame mirrorless camera with impressive image quality – and announced six new RF lenses, currently under development, as part of its plan to expand the EOS R System.

Canon will continue to refine its diverse imaging technologies based on its core optical technology to expand and create an even stronger EOS System that offers new avenues of image capture to meet the needs of increasingly diverse users and to promote the ever-growing photo and video culture.

As a Nikon Gear owner, I'm not surprised. The few pro photographers I have met over the past 9 years, mostly owned Canon Gear. One was a NFL pro photographer, and the three others were wedding photographers. I have met two pro photographers shooting Nikon gear. I don't think Canon has a better full frame pro camera than the current D850, or a crop sensor camera that can best the D500. But, Canon has great marketing. Always has been, and always will be. At least for the next 5 years. And Nikon and Canon are making great strides in mirrorless cameras, and that may be each Brand's future. I look to see Nikon making crop sensor mirrorless cameras, like Sony is doing with its a6000 series. The Olympics is going to be in Japan in 2020. What better place is there, to market the Canon Brand. And their new 1DX Mark III camera.

Everyone who has invested in the dinosaurs Canon and Nikon just wait. Although some of you already know some of your lenses will not work well on the new mirror-less bodies even with the adaptors. These companies will no longer be making new lenses for the DSLR's Canon users who are old enough will remember what Canon did to their loyal users of the FD system. It's coming, you'll see it is cheaper to make mirror-less bodies and current DSLR's will disappear. I still have my large collection of FD lenses and still use them but not on Canon I now use Sony. Will never buy Canon.

Didn't Nikon release a new 500 MM F5.6 for the full frame bodies around the same time as the Z7? Hmmm! Kind of blows your theory.

Nikon's D6 will most likely be released in time for the 2020 Olympics. It is sure to be just as good, if not better, than Canon's upcoming 1DX Mark III.

That would be an unexpected result for an entry-level full-frame mirrorless body, depending on which Nikon rumors you follow ...

I saw a photo, similar to the one you posted, with shelves full Canon cameras and "L" lenses, when the Olympics opened up in Brazil in 2016. Nikon had their room too, full of pro Gold Ring Nikon Lenses, and their new D5. There were not just as many, and not as many photographers using them as Canon. Yes, Canon rules the Olympics. Both Summer and Winter. No doubt about that. https://www.lightnfocus.com/after-canon-take-look-nikon-camera-room-rio-olympics/

Hope they don't rest on their laurels - lest they succumb to the "too big to fail" syndrome. For me Nikon provides the best value for the $$$ so that's where I'd rather be....btw Sony has claimed #1 in the mirrorless market for the last couple years - no wonder they were the only serious players until Nikon/Canon released their turd muffins.

The first 2 posts by Mr. CHG Canon ("Camera Hyping Guy?") were just unabashed advertising, adding nothing to anybody's discussion. Aren't there some rules to keep manufacturers from spamming us on this forum?
