Surely I will be able to sleep better knowing this.

I see you shoot Nikon. So, there’s a cause effect relationship between the equipment we use and the amount we sleep? Knowing that, as I have Canon, now my usual six hour a night has been explained. Whew! 🥺🤔🤓

I shoot with Canon gear and have for years. I was talking to an Olympus rep a while back and he said, "Truth to tell, you can't buy a bad camera today." I think he is right. What we really need is good photographers behind the camera - whatever brand.

Why is it that whenever a conversation starts about which camera brand is better, even when the conversation is lighthearted, the old philosopher pops up with his old tired saw about what we need. What we need is more lighthearted moments and fewer old philosophers telling us how to think.

Kudos to Canon. Even good marketing doesn't keep you on top for 16 years without having a decent product to back it up.

Sounds good, but they’re too heavy.

I’d rather shoot with “For Undeniable Justifiable Imagery,” FUJI.

So... the "Big Mac" is the best hamburger 'cause it's the top seller?

Pentax has a long history of great cameras and glass. And that Takumar lens from the 60’s will mount, with a simple inexpensive adapter, and make great images on your latest K1 II. There is no orphaned M42 or K-mount glass that I know of. I never understood why Pentax’s dedication to maintain its legacy’s usability wasn’t embraced by the hordes of enthusiasts that buy the bulk of the advanced cameras in the market.

From a happy minority Fuji shooter, congrats to Canon. Rumor said Fuji is ready to buy Canon next week. :)

When you’re heavily invested in glass it's too expensive to switch brands, so of course the cameras that wear out the quickest are going to get the most sales.

Actually, the ones that get replaced are the ones going obsolete. Funny how there are more Nikon bodies and glass for sale than Canon in the UHH classifieds !

I still use my T2i (converted to IR by LifePixel) and never had an issue with it. They tell me very few Nikon conversions are done. Guess Nikons get 'used up' faster ! When you have to spray and pray because the camera doesn't work so well, it uses up the Nikon shutter faster !

Yes, I know both can do a great job in the right hands but where would be the fun acknowledging THAT ????

It proves that they have great marketing. I can think of far better cameras - that are also far from being #1

Dream on hater. It means they make better cameras. I tried Nikon, I tried Canon. Canon was the camera I kept. Keep an eye out during sporting events: there are three times as many Canon cameras is there a Nikon cameras. And those shooters can afford any camera they want.

But how many are shooting with cameras they own?

Canon makes great cameras and lenses. They also have developed a great marketing department. The marketing department's job is to put the product where it can be seen and easily recognized. Part of that strategy years ago was white lenses. Best advertising move they ever made!

No matter what brand you own you have to ask, 'What have they done for ME lately?'.

I worked construction for a short time when I was much younger. I thought it was really funny to hear the old salts argue as to what the best hammer was. To me it was just a tool.

I have been a Nikon user for over 45 years. I could have been a Pentax, Minolta, Konica, Miranda or Canon user but in those days Nikon was my choice because the camera made me feel comfortable like their cameras make me feel today. We buy a camera precisely because we are comfortable with the controls and ergonomics and because it has the features we most often use in our photography, at least that is the way I feel. Each one of us is different, many refuse to go mirrorless because they are not comfortable with the little cameras. Others buy independent lenses because for their budgets they cannot afford more expensive glass and instead those photographers are producing excellent images with what they have.

Canon is the world leader when it comes to selling cameras. I have little to no experience using Canon bodies and lenses but they are of excellent quality. Like it has been said, it is near impossible to buy a camera today that will not do its job. Photography, regardless of gear depends a lot on us. After the turning of the century my son gave me a Canon, I believe it was a 30D although I am not completely sure. The image quality was very good but I could not get used to it. I then bought a Nikon D100 and I was immediately shooting again with bodies and lenses that I have used for a long time. I bet I could get as comfortable with Canon today as I am with Nikon but the chances are excellent I will never switch systems.

I was very curious when mirrorless began to break grounds. I bought my first Olympus (EPL-1) and I became fascinated with the little body sporting interchangeable lenses. I continue to use Olympus today in addition to my Nikon bodies and when I travel Olympus travels with me. I dare to say here that some of the best glass I have ever used has been Olympus optics. I feel at home with the little cameras and I have not looked at bodies by Fuji, Nikon, Canon or Sony simply because I am very happy with Olympus. I am sure others can say the same of what they are using now.

No matter the gear we use, we make the photographs not the camera or lenses.

Had you stayed on the job for 30 or 40 more years you might have a different opinion today.
