I recemnty acquired the RP and retained Tammy 18-400. The camera does not automatically switch when the Tammy is mounted, but once manually switched, it shoots with no issues. I have the same function on 5D S/r, with manual switch, but have not tried the Tammy on that camera

Do you use the VC, Dean? … Or do you switch it off, when using the 18-400 with the RP?

Hi Chris, I generally shoot this lens under VC control, especially when it was paired with my SL2, which I traded for the RP. At my age I need all the support I can get. 😎😎😎

Hi, Dean … so, the RP supports 3rd Party Image Stabilization then … good to know … thanks, Dean …

Do you miss the SL2, Dean?

Traded, huh? … Methinks you used that term pretty loosely …

Amazon sells the SL2 for $499 … but the MSRP on the RP is more than twice that, at $1299 …

I did enjoy the SL2, but since the RP will mate to ef-s lens, I thought, what the hey, I’ll jump on the RP. Southeastern Camera gave a fair price for the SL2 w/Canon 10-22 f3.5. I previously had an Oly EM-1 MkII mirrowless, found that to be a nice piece of equip.

There is much chatter on this forum regarding milc equip and what the future holds. Now with my second milc, I think there is a bright future in the milc universe. Time will tell.

Dean - I think they were allowing you more for that lens, than they were - the SL2 …

That's one of Canon's better APS-C lenses … perhaps, the best UWA-Z - they ever made!!!

I think you're right, Dean - Mirrorless is here to stay … but, don't write off DSLR technology, just yet!

I have a Canon EF 16-35 F4, so the ef-s counter-part was duplicative. As soon as my EF 24-70 F4 shows up, I’ll have the bases covered, with the EF 70-200 F4 already on my rack.

Not quite, Dean … for APS-C bodies, the widest available was/is the Sigma 8-16 …

With FF - the widest you can get is a 14mm …

So, you'll STILL be leaving a gap on the wide end …

Plus - on the tele end - you still have QUITE a ways to go !!!!!

Anyway … 16-200 isn't bad … but, t'ain't there - just yet!!!!

I retained my Tammy 18-400 when I switched to the RP, giving me a reach of 640 in aps-c mode. Total span with this combo of lens is 16 - 640. Given my limited ability in mobility and vision, there won’t be much need for any extremes on either end of that range. I do plan to latch on to a nifty 50 1.4, either Canon or Sigma Art. With that, my satchel will be full!

Yup … well, depends on the satchel, Dean … if it's a Tenba Messenger Bag - you might still have room for a 14! … And even a 150-600 Tammy, too … hmmm … now where did I put that other two grand … er ….

Naw, my satchel is just an old crocker sack that I have used for well over half a century. Will never let β€˜er go!

Dean … something just hit me … and that is - your expectations of getting 640mm out of an 18-400 on an RP - just doesn't cut it … if anything - you will get LESS than 400mm … you have to check against a KNOWN quantity … find someone with a 400mm FF lens and set up both on tripods, aimed at the same subject - think you'll be QUITE surprised … you will have to use FF cameras on both tripods - mind …

My 5D S/r and the RP both have settings as follows:
Full
1.6 Crop
1.3 Crop
1:1
4:3
16:9
I have shot tests with both cameras at those settings, and while i have not read the exif data to get true readings, the eyeball tells me the shots at the 1.6 crop setting is def in the range of what you would get on a true aps-c body.

Your question:
What's a crocker sack, Dean?

Spelling may be incorrect, but it is a coarse, heavy weave sack that farm produce once was shipped in. Stores would give them to customers once emptied, for secondary use.
