I could care less about who the president/king/prime minister/leader of a "s**t-hole country" is (even the DPRK until "rocket man" figured out how to build nukes) because it doesn't affect me directly. But when we are talking about the President of the United States of America, the most powerful man in the world and, purportedly, the Leader of the Free World -- not to mention that the US and Canada share the world's longest undefended border and that the US is Canada's largest trading partner -- then I DO CARE about US politics.
I said in my previous post that I respect Americans as a people, but I do have to admit my opinion of "y'all" went down a notch or two after the 2016 e******n. I was totally baffled that such a large group of supposedly intelligent adults could not see Trump for the person he really is: conman, bulls**tter, liar, bully, c***ter, egomaniac. He is largely illiterate, unread, uncouth, uneducated, uncultured, undiplomatic, rude, crass, vulgar, pompous, self-absorbed, self-serving, self-indulgent... oh, did I leave out any of the human qualities listed in the "Personal suitability" section of the job description for US President?
Seriously, the man may have been a successful real estate developer and TV mogul (although success in these endeavours can only be claimed if one accepts that the end justifies the means), but he does not possess/demonstrate the traits expected of a US President.
Trainspotter, you suggested I stay out of American politics, but I suggest you take a moment to stop spotting trains and recognize the train you are on; your country is headed for a big train wreck... in painstakingly slow motion. The US was #1 in the world for many years; unfortunately, when you are #1 there is only one way to go -- DOWN. I just didn't think it would happen so soon.
I will close with a crass comment I have made before (but then this is The Attic, so allow me):
- if the US were an Empire, then Trump would be Emperor;
- if the US were a Kingdom, then Trump would be King.
Trump would clearly be most pleased with either of those titles... but we all know that the US is a country.
