Elm Tree Bloom Reproductive Parts

A storm blew by the other day and our driveway was covered with the neighbors elm tree blooms. With my area still void of active critters I thought one of these blooms would make an interesting subject so here it is.

This image was taken with a 4X Finite microscope objective placed on the end of a 150mm extension tube. Illumination was provided by the IKEA LED desk lamps diffused through stacked plastic cups and white paper towel. This is a full frame image from a Nikon D810 with the shutter speed set to achieve a neutral point exposure.

For those of you who suffer from Hay Fever during the onset of spring, this is one of the aggravators but at least it looks quite interesting when seen in a magnified view.

I'll trade you a bushel of elm blooms for just one insect (even a house fly)..!

I know if I came down there with your lovely weather and abundant insects that I would never come back although I doubt that my wife and dogs would miss me!

Reproductive parts? On a 'G' rated site. Be careful you are walking a thin line. Great shot, I keep thinking it's not as easy as you make it look.

What in the world is a bushel of elm hard ons good for? Makes me think of when David came back from collecting the dowery for Saul's daughter, what's her name.

Interesting shot. I too, have an elm tree... with loads of seeds, then they ALL(!) sprout. I then have to pull them up as I spot them.
