Cora-Belle … there's no bias, reflected in this response, as I use both brands, and respect each, accordingly. However, something nobody has yet pointed out to you is this - you are comparing an advanced or intermediate DX camera with a rank beginner Canon very basic DSLR. Also, the Nikon D5600 is a current crop-sensor model, with a fully-articulating touch screen, and the T6 has NEITHER feature. Also, it doesn't have an automatic-sensor cleaning mechanism, so, when it comes time to clean it - your daughter will either have to figure out how to do it, herself - or - send it back to Canon, for a cleaning. Also, the Canon EOS Rebel T6 has now been replaced by the T7. So, the bundle you are seeing is on an older model, AND one which is pretty much BASIC, and in no way - a comparison to the Nikon D5600 - which is a pretty advanced camera. A fairer comparison between the T6 and a Nikon - would be the D3500, or prior D3400. However, neither of THESE models have Auto-Sensor Clean, either. You'd have to go back to the D3300 to have that feature. Also, none of the D3000 series have the F-A Touch Screen. Now, then - to compare apples with apples - the comparable DSLR in Canon's line-up to the D5600 - would be the EOS Rebel T7i - note the "i" appendix - this means "intelligent" which applies to not only the auto-sensor clean, but also to the computer technology inside - which is head and shoulders above the ones without the "i" designation. Go look at the CanonUSA web-site. You may be able to find the older EOS Rebel T6i (or T6s - same but with the top screen) at a significant discount over the newer T7. Also, take a look at any deals which might be available on the EOS Rebel SL2 - another beginner model - but with the added benefit of the F-A Touch Screen, which the Basic models lack. This model is also available in white. And, red versions of the T7 and T6 CAN be purchased, but only, directly - from Canon. The red Nikon D5500 (prior model to the D5600) can be purchased, still - look around. But, unfortunately - the Nikon D5600 was never offered in red. However, the D3000 series are ALL available in red. Happy Hunting! And, whatever you should choose for your daughter - I wish both you, and she - the best with it!

Sorry Chris, there is always bias in anyone's opinion as long as they are human. But your stable of entry level equipment from several manufacturers qualifies you to give an educated comment.

I am surprised the for a beginner no one has touted any of the Sony mirrorless models.

Haydon - was very careful NOT to show any bias, whatsoever, in my comment. BTW - out of a full DOZEN DSLRs listed in my signature - only THREE - are designated Entry-Level - the D3200, the T3 and the a58.

But to say the Sony is an entry-level camera - is - by far - an understatement!!! … It's more advanced than the intermediate APS-C Canikons!!!!

John - just about the ONLY beginner Sony MILC - is the a5100!!!!

But, Cora-Belle had only been considering the Nikon D5600 (intermediate DX) and the EOS T6 (basic DSLR.)

I have the older model D5500 and here are samples of how this camera performs of which I get paid for.
And my client says "it's all black and white".
And I said, "Yup. White and grey cabinets, grey walls, black lines, with a splash little colorful objects".

If I went to a higher end 'Pro Camera' these photos could be a little better.....you think?

I like it also because it's very compact and light weight.

To me it's a pro camera because I use it professionally.

There are a couple of critical points in deciding on a brand of a person's first camera.

They are:
Which has a more readily understood menu?
Which feels more comfortable in the hand?
Which is the same brand as my father’s so I can borrow his lenses? ☺

VEEEEEEEEERY nicely done, Ken … I have the D5500, too … and these put MINE to shame!!! … I agree with you, though … in many ways, the D5500 is - very much - a Pro Camera - at least, in-so-far as DX goes … don't think you could do much better than that with any of the D7000 series PROsumer models!!!!

Paul - without doubt - Canon menus are easier to understand than ANY other DSLR on the planet!!!!

As to which feels more comfortable in the hand - it's more a thing of which MODEL you're considering, rather than the brand - don'tchathink?

As to borrowing lenses - I guess you make a valid point. If anyone else in your family uses Nikon, or Canon, or any other brand - it sure does make it easier (and more economical) to keep it in the family!

I wondered that, too, Rich … was going to ask, but, then - stopped short … check the EXIF - might be listed!

If not - I suggest you ask it, again - but use the Quote Reply under Ken … instead of under ME - okay?

The D3xxx and D5xxx series Nikons have a pentamirror viewfinder. If you go up to a D7xxx series or above Nikon you get a superior pentaprism viewfinder. The glass prism gives a larger, slightly brighter view through the viewfinder. You also get the great U1 and U2 memory banks on the mode dial. Also, you get dual command wheels. The D7200 is heavily discounted to $700 right now. It's going to be discoutinued so they're probably trying to clear them out. It's $900 with the 18-55mm and 70-300mm lenses. I would scoop up one right away before getting the D5600.

You might want to educate yourself on how bias works. Everyone has it Chris. It's inherit on a subconscious level.

Chris 11 out of your 12 are entry level. You are qualified as I said to give an educated opinion on entry level cameras.

Haydon … if you REALLY think I showed any bias in my comment to Cora-Belle - all I can say is - you didn't REALLY read my comment that well. There was absolutely NO BIAS shown in that original response!!!!

Even the Avatar photograph - has been set up to show how UNBIASED I am in relation to camera brands. Both the Nikon D7000 (left) and the Canon EOS 60D (right) have the same exact lens (Tokina 16.5-135 AT-X)

As I said you don't understand what bias is. Educate yourself instead of offering misinformation which is your MO.

You were objective but not "without bias". Read how that works.

Haydon - you don't have ANY IDEA what you're talking about! You need to study up on APS-C cameras!!!!
