New Lens Pileated Woodpecker

Just received a new to me Nikon Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8 SWM AF-S VR IF ED Lens from EBay, excellent condition.
I had to try the lens out attached to my D810.
This Pileated landed at the base of a tree by our back door, on a golf course.
Please critique.

I looked close at the first pic but found the bird soft in focus. Very little detail in the bid and feathers. You used spot focus but does not seem to be on the bird. The tree looks ok. Don't know how far you were from the bird but I might find pf DOF calculator the 200MM you shot at.

That tree is in trouble. If of interest to that woodpecker, it has a hive of carpenter ants living in it. The proof will be if large holes appear, made within 15 or 20 minutes.

Many thanks. I was probably 90 to 100 feet away. Yes lots of ants in the stump.

The lens should have come with a manual, but you can search online for it, as well. I like the pdfs online because one can search them.
