Copying ? You mean a file like DCIM001 comes up as DCIM001(1) then DCIM001(2) etc etc ?
It means you are playing ( adjusting ) the photo and then copying or pasting it into the same folder. Windows will rename the file unless you click 'save as' and pick the same file name. Then it won't change the file name.

I think you may be referring to Picasa's showing the file image in areas other than the original spot it was filed. I found that annoying when I tried the application out. I think it has to do with it's organizational features, seeking out any new images found on your computer when you open it up as some other organizers do. It's fine if you are using the organizer that comes with many applications today..but can be annoying if you are not.
