My apologies, Jerry. Did not mean to insult you. When I heard Stouffers and frozen pizza, I did make a few assumptions.
Yes, you probably do need a full size stove/oven. What time will dinner be served? I'll bring some wine.
Sorry,
Mark

No offense taken.

From Consumer Reports on the Breville toaster oven, under "Lows" -

"This model had no discernible flaws in its performance." Sounds good.

Most likely thermostat broke for the element, sending continuous power to the element.
New stove vs. repair? How old is the stove?
Did running like it did damage the element?
It might be time.

It's going on 18 years, so I guess I got my money's worth out of it.

When I looked at ratings before making the purchase, I seem to recall it was #1. It's perfomance deserves a high rating.

That's the one I was looking at, and it's $30 less on Amazon. Does it get much use in your house?

It sure does. I bake, broil, toast and heat. I hardly turn on the oven or broiler anymore. It does not replace a stove, but it almost substitutes for the oven, save a large turkey for family Thanksgiving.

It probably heats only that one room, though, right? I mean it wouldn't heat the whole house.

Just a very small Mary Jane (with Sprinkles) type one.

Yea, I think I'd replace it now.
More thermostats will probably start going...depending on usage.
Our full-size wall oven is all digital (electric).
Going to be interesting when it goes.

Since my new home's easement is backed up to a subdivision that HAS gas lines. Which means I can hire someone with a Master's application for dealing with Gas Lines to install my new Gas Line to which I can connect an Emergency Nat. Gas powered Emergency Generator, to power my home during Electrical outages!

Plus during Weather related Electrical outages, a nat. gas powered Electric Generator is the Ultimate in Emergency Operations. This includes Winter Power Outages to Spring storm damages to summer Hurricane Outages! All of them a Major Pain in the butt! Have an Emergency Power Generator, no pains anywhere!

You might think, how bad can it be ... to live without electricity for a few days?

Try living in a house without electricity for three months or OVER a YEAR!

Our City had 'exactly' that scenario back a few decades ago. I was fortunate, we got power back in three months. Extended sections of the City didn't get back electricity for OVER a year!

Granted this was when our region was tied to ONE ELECTRIC Company, with no competition. Once competition entered into the Formula, it seemed like a magician waved a magic wand and things .... were FAR FASTER in the repair scenarios.

Also the monthly bills .... dropped dramatically!

Competition always ... fixes a LOT of problems . . .

Time to PLUG that formula into Medical Insurance, that lets you buy Medical Insurance across State Lines.

I am once again turning to vast storehouse of knowledge on UHH to help me buy wisely.

It seems that my 2001 Sears stove has cooked it's last meal. After heating the Stauffer's lasagna last night, I saw a bright light in the oven. One point on the electric heating element was glowing so brightly that it looked like someone was welding in there. That spot kept burning its way around the element till I turned off the circuit breaker. There is probably a heating element available that I could buy, but prices I've seen are $100 and up. In addition, I suspect the oven control switch is also bad because while that spot was burning, the rest of the element was glowing a dim red.

So, I'm ready to hear your suggestions for what I should look for in an electric stove. A high price is not tops on my list. In the meantime, I still have a working microwave and a wood stove.

Jerry
Take a close look at the element, see if there is a rupture somewhere in the area of the "bright spot"
Sounds like the insulation between the inner rod and the outer sleeve, I have seen this happen many times on "Calrod" elements. The repair was to replace the element. usually two screws slide the old element out, slide the new one it and replace place the screws and your back in business.

However when the oven on my 25 yr.old electric range started messing up I did replace it with a Gas range, I never did like the old one!!! I was lucky I live in a rural area where the only gas is propane. I feel it was a good move since I can now raise or lower the heat instantly which was my major gripe about the old range.
My gas bill for the stove is less than $100 a year, the price does rise and drop depending on the time of year, I keep 2-100# cyls. when one empties I switch to the second, the wait for the price to drop and then exchange it, last time the cost was $63.

If you like the stove / oven just replace the element. They do short out after many years. The control is probably fine. It’s similar to a hot water heating element which has a finite life.

Heating elements are cheap and easy to replace. Our Sears smooth top did the same thing. When the element broke and arced it welded a spot in bottom. Went to parts store got new one and plugged in. Works great.

"It seems that my 2001 Sears stove has cooked it's last meal."

Hi Jerry, Replaced '97 vintage Sears stove element and controls died soon thereafter. Our '97, vintage Frigidaire Gallery Frig is still treating us well so we opted for a Frigidaire Gallery All-Electric, Dbl-Oven with Convection Option, 5-Burner SmoothTop (7 burners if you count 2 are Dual-Sized) Mod#FGE306TMBC, Canadian Mfr Date: Jan 2014 for Electrolux Home Products. Has been good to us since 2014.

*Convection Option speeds cooking by circulating oven heat via a rear wall fan. Be careful when using the option you might need to adjust your cook time. I seldom select convection unless in a hurry.
*Maytag, Kenmore and Whirlpool and others? are all owned by one entity.
Good Luck shopping! ~Fotoless
