Just Curious, Why in 1997 does Georgia need a covered bridge? Still a lot of horse drawn wagons fighting through the snow in Georgia?
According to an article I read, the bridge was originally designed as a pre-stressed concrete bridge. County planners decided to make this bridge a landmark, adding a large wooden superstructure and rock facing to the underlying concrete bridge. Concerned about the possibility of fire, this bridge is equipped with cameras, smoke detectors and a sprinkler system.
