On an abandoned croft door. Plockton in the north west of Scotland.

That’s compelling. Lots of emotion and nicely photographed.

Moving, and great form. The plant intrusion on the right bothers me a bit, as it is strong enough in value to be noticed, but softened/out of focus enough to not really be a part. A bit like a minor character in a play upstaging the main actor.

Thanks, Bob. I do see the bramble as part of the neglected and overgrown nature of the place.

Got to agree with Bob regarding the bramble but I know you like to include what you see when taking a shot (mostly) Graham, and I get that too. The image made me wonder if Lassie lived there, or was it on a favourite walk? Very engaging shot and emotional.

It has been noted by some that they find the plant a distraction. For me I am thinking in the opposite direction. Mother Nature leaving her gift for the grieving owner. If that at all makes sense.

It's the tentacles of nature reaching out to subsume all into the Earth

Of course it makes sense. My complaint is that its tones stick out TOO much--its shapes and reference clash with the main point. It is to my mind a great inclusion for content and composition (necessary for the latter), but sticks out like one flat horn in an orchestra.

Bob not to sound like it's an argument, but the way I see it the tag is the brightest part of the image. Everything else is the supporting cast including the plant. The leaves were one of the last things I saw when I downloaded the shot.
