Nice captures. I especially like the Fresnel lens display. This technology is being deployed more and more in camera lenses. It is hard to believe that just a 500w bulb illuminated this. vz

Thank you Erik, Earnest, Ken, Cindy, Jimmyt, RichardSM, Bill! Every lighthouse included discussion of the loneliness of the assignment where only the keeper and his family and kids lived there and operated the light. In the old days, the United States Lighthouse Service operated like a military organization although completely distinct from the Coast Guard or Navy. In the National Cemetery in St Augustine were a few graves of veterans of the USLHS.

The original lamp burned kerosene; in 1909 it was replaced with an incandescent oil vapor lamp. In 1924 a generator was installed to provide electricity in the keepers' dwellings and to pump water, replacing an old windmill pump. The lighthouse beacon was electrified in 1933 with a 500-watt lamp.

Ponce de Leon Inlet Light is located between the St. Augustine Light and the Cape Canaveral Light, on the Atlantic Coast of Central Florida. Restored by the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, the lighthouse became a National Historic Landmark in 1998.

In 1939 The lighthouse was transferred from the disbanded United States Lighthouse Service to the United States Coast Guard, which would oversee it for the next three decades.

Great shots and narration Paul. I climbd to the top once, but I don't think I would try it again. Climbing back down was the hard part.
