My hubby and I have a bad habit of not saying no to each other. Which was why we were up to six dogs. Only 2 were gotten as puppies, the rest were shelter dogs, or bailed out in other forms. We kept saying "4 is plenty....we've got to say no...." Then..."5 is plenty....we've got to stop this...." Then # 6....then a friend of mine who is an RVT and who is strongly supportive of rescues (and has a house full herself...) sends this picture of a sad little wire hair JRT who was in the shelter. Shelter was going through some problems, and they were scrambling to find soft spots for the kids to land. My hubby has wanted a wire jack for quite some time. So....we went up to meet him. He was a wreck. Terrified, totally antisocial, borderline feral. If you attempted to touch him he'd lunge, scream, and snap at you. After an hour outside, he still wouldn't allow me to touch him. I was thinking this was not a good situation, looked my hubby in the eye with this "what are we going to do??" look. He misinterpretted it, thought I was meaning "We've got to help him..." so he said "We've got to try." Threw a heavy blanket over him, shoved him in a crate and took him home. The shelter had said he was an amish puppy mill dog that didn't sell so he got dumped. I'm not so sure. Within 48 hours he was a different dog. He's leash broke, we put him in our big farm sink and gave him a bath and he stood like a trooper. Pretty well house broke, and crate trained. Amish dogs don't typically have those attributes. His one big draw back is he still does not like strangers at all and will bite. I'm figuring that's why he got dumped. But people he's had a chance to meet and accept on his terms, he's fine with. We're careful with him around strangers, but hopefully he'll get there. Isn't he a cute little bugger???

He really is a cutie and I'm sure in time will settle in just fine. You and Hubby already know he's not the best around strangers, so you have that covered and I say Kudos to both of you for giving this fellow a chance and a good home. Best wishes on a wonderful outcome congrats on your newest addition ♥
He certainly is, and bless you and your husband for giving him a loving home!!

Thanks for the kind comment. He's got a ways to go, but he's a fun little bugger.

We have two smooths. Our oldest will be 15 in September and is in failing health, but she's still hanging in. That's great that yours is still with us at 16.

Thanks for the nice comment. The horse art my sister picked up for me somewhere at a flea market. Due to some health issues my real horses are leased out for now so they can be used, but hopefully some day I'll be able to bring them back home.

Thank you. He's great with us, and has accepted our care taker neighbor who comes over when we have to go out of town. We've had difficult/problem dogs before over the years, we just take precautions and make sure to not set him up to fail. His list of accepted people is growing....slowly....but it's growing.
