Lanyards

In the past, (analog days), lanyards and lanyards for press passes were readily exchanged between photographers mainly at sporting venues but not limited to that subject.

Although I never collected them, some really wild lanyards came and went my way along with several stories about where photographers got them.

Here's a question for everyone, how come that is not done anymore?

We use em at the Gun Club for credentials & identification purposes but other than Gov. Facillities....they're kinda non-existent nowadays. The Whitehouse issues them to Press Folks I believe.

They still sell them on-line but I can't tell how substantial they actually are and for what purpose they're rated.....?

I had never heard of that practice, but I suspect that the lanyards aren't worth collecting any more. Maybe they are just plain and cheap to keep the cost down.

I've worked several places in high-tech and medical and everyone is required to wear visible ID, whether on pocket or belt clips or lanyards. Security stuff, of course. Most everyone uses the corporate lanyard that comes with the badge, but a few folks get inventive... Maybe its because they're everywhere now, and not as unique as they used to be.

I think I still have a "Vic Firth" lanyard from years back I keep threatening to search for and use at work

Lanyards can be hung on a hook over the shelf where the Beanie Babies, the LOTR Action Figures, and the 1:400 scale diecast airliners are sitting. They're all waiting patiently, ready for the day when their market(s) will be resurrected

Yesterday I photographed an event and the host used magnetic lanyards with plastic ID holders. They collected them as people left. Renewables! They stated they would reuse them.

Lanyards are still commonly used at trade shows. Every attendee would wear one, instead of clipping a badge on your jacket and almost guaranteeing that it would be lost.

I have 'flap' id holder that holds the id in a plastic holder and the 'flap' has a magnet that goes into a pocket and magnetizes to the front 'flap'. I see them on police shows where they are looped on the officers belt or pants. Lanyards are still used at trade shows and sporting events. Even my camera club uses them (although I frequently forget it on the kitchen table).

Over the years I received many and just threw them in a corner box until I decided to clean up. I grabbed about 100 or so and just before I threw them out I got an idea. I asked the AD from a local HS if he could use them. Interestingly, it was just before a state tournament was to be held at their school. They were very happy to get them and it saved them a few bucks.
