I was interested in what you were going to say about this SSD. Unless, you just completely changed your mind?

Oops? I hit the wrong dang button 😡 I meant to ask...

Does anyone have any experience/opinion of the SanDisk Extreme Portable USB 3.1 (Gen 2) SSD? I'm thinking of I may only need the 500GB since I'll only be using it for photo storage when I'm traveling and possibly to back-up my old school 1T at home?

Thanks.

I don't know about that SSD. Just the other day, there was a lengthy discussion on SSD's, and how fast and effective they are. The Brand names I remember mentioned, were Crucial and Samsung, The Crucial and Samsung appeared to be appeasing to some with very good reviews. For my laptop, I'm pretty much leaning on either the 500gb Crucial or Samsung. To replace my HDD. Half of my cameras SD memory cards are SanDisk. So, that is a trusted name Brand. At least for memory cards. You can get a Samsung 1TB SSD for $148. Even less for the 500gb. Good luck. Someone will know about the one you are interested in.

Personally, I would choose Samsung or Intel. I use Intel and have had half a dozen Intel 530/540 series SSDs in service for almost 6 years without any issues. At the time I chose Intel, they had the best reliability figures in the industry (when was the last time you saw an Intel CPU fail?), and I haven’t been disappointed. Crucial would not be one of my choices based on a number of reported issues.

Ya know, I saw your post a couple of weeks ago but didn’t respond because I didn’t think I had much to write. Frankly, I still don’t, but here’s my two cents: I bought the 500 GB model, it works as promised, and I still don’t have any regrets. It serves as yet another means of backing up what is mostly photos. I might convert its use to being an offsite storage depot that I'd leave at a friend's house in the same town.

Thanks! I also got the 500 GB to take with me whenever we go on short trips. So far, so good

My Question is How do you Locate and retrieve A specific RAW+JPEG Image that you require on a 1TB hard drive, or even a smaller 500GB SSD device.??

That would depend on a variety of information, for example, how do you name your files as well as once they're named, how and where do you store them (Are they in folders, are the folders named or dated and how much do you know about the specific file you're looking for, etc.) Based on the info I've talked about, you should have a good idea of where to start looking.

I have several , in different storage capacities and read/write speeds from 500TB to 4GB, and they are superb for all my portable storage for my professional and personal work.

I have used them for years, and love traveling with them as daily backup storage for my images. And I use them at home as additional hard drives for my laptop computer, used with a hub.

I have NEVER had one of them fail ever, and I still have the first one I ever bought years ago, and recently bought another on sale. They go on sale often, so look for that.

I highly recommend them.

Cheers and best to you.
