That's a really interesting monochrome image. The different tones really come alive in the download. Did you capture it that way or remove the color in PP? Would love to see the color image (if one exists) for comparison.

I like it for many reasons. Not the least of which is that it is the reverse of the pier jutting out into the water cliche'. Instead the water is doing the projecting!

Thanks tomad, I always shoot in colour and convert in PP. I strongly advise others that want to try B&W to do the same.

Here is the re-sized colour original with just a very small amount of adjustment. If you click the "Download" button should appear in your download folder... have a play

Wow, thanks Graham. I like the B&W much better than the original!

I like the curves, the sweep of road, the strip of grass to the left of the road and the ditch to the left of that.

Very compelling photo, Graham. Seeing the color just emphasizes our belief that you are a great visionary and tactician

Thanks Linda, I'll go along with tactician but visionary, I just didn't see that coming

During my enforced inactivity I find that I'm becoming more involved in high contrast dark landscapes, doing a lot of experimenting. I'm impressed by the Somerset landscapes of Don McCullin, so simple but so dramatic.

Wonderful to know you're making the most of your time as you wait, wait, wait - hopefully only a few days more??

And what a clever wit you are too..."didn't see that coming.."

I go in on the 26th with surgery on the morning of the 27th. Give me a couple of days after that and, with any luck, I'll be online

It's that "English" sense of humour again

It is an excellent conversion. It has a little bit more contrast than I like but we are all different. The S curve is a nice touch leading to the main subjects. Excellent depth of field that enhances the image.
Beautiful tonalities enhances the mood.

Thanks, William, I have been studying the work of a landscape photographer who makes some wonderfully dark and moody pictures. Striking the balance between dark and moody and too dark is tricky, but, as you hint. “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”
