A few images from the 2019 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago, IL. The tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green arose by accident when plumbers used fluorescein dye to trace sources of illegal pollution discharges. The dyeing of the river is still sponsored by the local plumbers union. Now, 45 lbs of (safe) vegetable dye is used. These images are from Saturday morning, March 16, 2019.

The green-colored water travels from the Chicago River to the Illinois River, onto the Mississippi, followed by the Gulf Stream and across the Atlantic until it enters the Irish Sea, “clearly marking the way from Chicago to Ireland.”

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882, the group is named in honor of the explorer Christopher Columbus. CHG CANON, you really provided one grand series of photos and the narratives made it very special. Some of it I knew but a lot was new and I enjoyed it greatly. Thanks

Thank you Richard, Country boy, merrytexan! I have a college friend that is a drummer in the Irish pipe and drum band that leads the parade. All those pictures are on film that hasn't even been sent in for processing. Maybe there will be some updates still to come in the future. Glad you enjoyed.
