This has been a tech challenging day for me. Windows did an update and hosed my computer, internet, wifi, and all my photo processors. In the middle of trying to recover, reload and figure out what I had lost in the update, the hubby all of a sudden needed auto parts ordered, like yesterday. UGH!
Anyway, I took the crystal sphere out for a few pictures. They're not exactly what I wanted, but with the challenges happening today, here they are.

I like this set. Hope tomorrow is less eventful for you.

Nice start for the challenge, Judy!

I'm not so sure I'll do well on this one, but I am looking forward
to seeing what our fellow hoggers come up with, since they are
such a talented bunch.

I just got back my 16x20 print that Sue liked so much, so I used
that as my background and then played with different pieces
of glassware...I definitely need help and some work on this...LOL
Tim

Woops! Hit the wrong reply. I like #3!

It will be fun to create and see what others come up with and their own creativity!

Have fun and show us your take(s) on the subject!

I'll begin with some of my attempts in the beginning....

I have one of those crystal spheres, but I am just not getting how to use it well. I'll keep trying! The fabric pattern looks cool through the sphere!

I'm finding this quite the challenge, and with no stock images to fall back on! So I've had to go to work and find out a few things for myself - like how to avoid reflections! For the moment I've settled on having the light source pretty well behind the object (I don't have any alternative light sources).

So here's my first subject, an engraved jug. The first image shows the sable antelope facing the camera, so it's not a refracted image; in the second it is seen through the water, with distortion of the body. In the third one I am interested how the jug handle refracts the image of the chair which is the main subject of each image. Then I noticed that the chair appears in somewhat different forms in the handle of each picture.

My first attempts were terrible, but I think these approach acceptability. I played a bit with colour too, and can see that there are many possibilities there as others have already demonstrated. Here we see the green being picked up by parts of the engraving and the handle. Orientation has marked impact on the effects too.

I guess I should have cleared away the air bubbles - perhaps if I had the resolution, I could show that each bubble has its own refracted image? This could get addictive, so I must resist that temptation, if only to protect some valuable time for other enthusiasms!

You bet ya fabric pattern is a cool way to demonstrate refractiveness! I'll post a couple more on my

experiment to show my mistakes and trials....Super fun to play!!
