Android post processing

Hello all,

I will be taking a month long trip this September/October to Germany and South Africa. In an attempt to minimize the amount of stuff to carry, I would like to use my android tablet for some minimal post processing of key images. (I don't want to drag along a laptop.) I am not interested in LR/PS CC.

I have a Nikon 3400 and shoot in RAW (NSF). Can anyone suggest an app or set of apps that will allow me to develop a few images a day so I can share them with friends?

I have just bought the cables necessary to get the .NSF files to my tablet..

Thanks!
JC

Try Snapseed. You can get a free download on your tablet. Before leaving on you trip, test it out and see how it works with RAW files. It has quite a selection of fast post-processing tools. You can the download the images to you phone and share them.

Let us know how it works with you system.

I'm using Photoshop Express that is free from the Google Play Store. It is editing RAW files but I don't know if that is because I also have Lightroom (mobile) CC on the tablet. Try it. It will work with JPEGs for sure.

Why do you not want to use LR? The Android version is very nice and simpler (more limited) than CC plus it synchs very rapidly with Adobe Cloud. That makes downloading to your laptop or desktop a cinch. If you already have LR CC, this is the way to go. You do not have to learn a new program.

Thanks E.L. I was fooling around with Snapseed last evening. I think I need to convert from NEF to DNG. I'll continue to tinker with it.

Thanks bsprague, I tried Photoshop Express but it could not open the NEF file. I do not have LR. I may try again once Ihave a JPEGS to work on.

That is my experience with using my Chromebook. Here is a recent topic in which other software is discussed as, well:

Hi abc1234, I use darktable and Gimp on my laptop and find them more than sufficient for my needs. I do not wish to pay a subscriptionfee for PS/LR.
Thanks.

If "just" sharing a few "key photos" with friends each day, have you considered shooting raw+jpg? Jpg (with minimal edits if desired) while on your trip, tons of work fun when you return home

Snapseed can be set to export smaller files, perfect to email.

btw, I tried out two raw converter Android apps. One, I think it was called raw2dng, did a worse job than if I'd started with the jpg, and the other reduced files significantly in size. If you find any worth checking into, please let us know!

Thanks. I've wondered why I can open RAWs in "Express". Your results suggest there is a hidden connection to Lightroom (mobile) CC.

I have an Olympus TG-5 "Tough" as a travel camera. The Android phone app from Olympus has a function to select and convert RAWs to JPEGs for emailing or posting withing the phone.
