Badly needed in the UK given the increase in gang-related crime.

I had a lot of that, too. I deserved all of it.

Do it here in the U.S. and the little miscreant will call social services and next thing you know you will be charged with assault. The liberal pantywaists in this country all will say that the little one didn't really mean it whatever they did.

Right. There's never been any bad results from parents beating on their kids.

Sure. Let's teach our kids that violence is the answer to problem behavior. Sick.

A paddling is not "violence" to the majority of people. It is discipline, which we need a lot more than pansy ass kowtowing.

A paddling (spanking) on the butt is one thing. I got them as a child when I deserved it, thank you mom. But, some parents went to extremes and beat their kids severely, including punching them in the face or worse. Those parents should have been arrested.

Todays laws went overboard.

Disciplining children with an occasional swat is not violence but showing them that there are consequences to their negative actions. I am not advocating the beating up of children, breaking of skin and bones or anything like that. But spanking a child who does wrong is not child abuse.

Exactly, the key word is, extremes. As a child I had my face slapped, butt spanked with hand and an occasional belt and one use of a switch by my mom. She was not an abusive parent nor was my father. But when they told us something it was meant to be followed. Like others have stated, I deserved everything I ever received.

I look at the way I was brought up, to show respect to others, to not break the law, to do well in school, and to give back to a country that has given me so much; then I look at some kids of today who tell police to go screw themselves, use drugs, steal and do not work and I am thankful I had the parents I was given.
